History

To get to know Electrolux, we’ll take you through the company’s early years, founding, breakthroughs, and how the company operates in today’s marketplace.

Founding and Milestones

The founder of Electrolux, Axel Wenner-Gren

Electrolux is a Swedish multinational home appliance manufacturer that was founded in 1919 by a Swedish inventor, Axel Wenner-Gren. The company came into being after the merger of Lux Ab, an established manufacturer, and Svenska Elektron AB, a younger company. It started as a vacuum cleaner manufacturer, but it has forged into a new era and now makes a variety of different major home appliances. The original spelling of the new company was Elektromekaniska AB, but it became Electrolux in 1957.

In 1923, the company acquired AB Arctic, which was known for manufacturing refrigerators, and this is when Electrolux added absorption refrigerators to its product line. Then, it added other appliances in the following years. In 1951, it began manufacturing washing machines. In 1959, it added dishwashers to its product line, and in 1962, it began to manufacture food service equipment.

Electrolux had made a few acquisitions earlier in its history, but between 1960 and 1969, it acquired a record number of companies, including ElektroHelios, Danish Atlas, Flymo, Finnish Slev, and Norwegian Elektra. This trend continued through the 1990s. The rapid growth of the company was due mainly to the efforts of Hans Werthen, its president at the time, who later became the chairman of the board. This is when Electrolux executives began restructuring the company into what it is today.

When it comes to the products that Electrolux has released, here is a short history of the emergence of notable products that helped to keep the company at the top of the industry. The first product that was sold by Electrolux was the Lux vacuum cleaner back in 1919. Then, in 1925, the company released its first refrigerator, which was an absorption model. In 1937, it unveiled the model 30 vacuum cleaner.

The Electrolux Assistent, a mixer and food processor released in 1940

During wartime in the 1940s, Electrolux released only one consumer product, the Assistent (Swedish for assistant), onto the market. This was a mixer/food processor. In 1951, the company released its first home washing machine, which was manufactured in its plant located in Gothenburg, Sweden. Then, in 1959, the company released its first countertop dishwasher model, and it was nicknamed “round jar” because of the way it looked.

Finally, in 2001, Electrolux made it back to its origins when it released its robotic vacuum cleaner, the Trilobite, which was one of the first model types on the market at the time.

Production and Manufacturing

Electrolux is still producing goods that use electrical power to bring convenience and comfort to its customers, and its mission of innovating while supporting well-being experiences and sustainability remains the same. The company started manufacturing and revolutionizing vacuum cleaners, but today, it has an array of products including, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens, and washers and dryers as well. With so many options available on the market, it can be a challenge when you’re contemplating how to choose the right refrigerator for your needs.

When it comes to manufacturing, Electrolux is a huge company. Globally, ranks second in units sold, right behind Whirlpool, among manufacturers of home appliances. The company has acquired a variety of brand names throughout the years, and it has continued to manufacture those products in the different parts of the world where the names were acquired. Regions where Electrolux has manufacturing facilities include Oceania, the Middle East, North and South America, and Europe. Some of the company’s largest factories are in China, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States. The company’s high-end refrigerators are made in Turkey.

Key Facts

Historically, Electrolux is known for developing and producing some of the world’s first vacuum cleaners. It has received many patents since its founding over 100 years ago. Recently, the company has begun to manufacture other products with modern technologies that provide customers with convenience while still performing essential household needs. The company has shifted its focus over the years to not only providing practical household appliances but also using innovative technologies to befriend the Earth by adjusting its manufacturing processes.

Warranty Information

When it comes to warranties, most of Electrolux’s appliances, such as refrigerators, do come with a warranty designed to provide customers with peace of mind about its products. There isn’t a lot of information on the official website that pertains to warranties, but when you look at a product, it should give you a brief description of the warranty that is provided.

We were able to conclude that Electrolux is big on the registration of its products. When you purchase directly from Electrolux.com, most refrigerators will come with a one-year warranty on both labor and parts, but as long as you register your product with the company within 60 days of purchasing it, they add an extra year to the existing warranty, which is important to take advantage of.

Also, if you choose to purchase one of its products from a different retailer, make sure that you find out about the warranty that it provides. Sometimes, the retailer will provide a warranty on the company’s products. However, it is important to note that the company generally only deals with requests for warranties when it pertains to products that were purchased directly from its website. If the product was purchased at a retailer, you will need to contact that vendor to set up any repair requests relating to the warranty. Then, the retailer will usually contact the company and set up technician appointments if required.

Electrolux Refrigerator/Freezer Parts

When it comes to repairing components of an Electrolux refrigerator, it is important to know that its refrigerators need to be serviced by an official Electrolux technician, especially if the appliance in question is still under warranty.

The company divides issues into essential and nonessential ones. Since Electrolux understands the importance of keeping its refrigerators working, it has a lot of excellent resources that can help you to troubleshoot most issues. There are also representatives who can help walk you through checking and troubleshooting your refrigerator to see if a technician needs to be sent out to your location.

For this reason, the company does not offer replacement parts for direct sale. You need to request the necessary parts through one of its technicians, who will inform you of the parts needing to be replaced and the amount, if any, that you will owe for parts and labor.
