History
Founding and Milestones
Magic Chef has a long and storied history dating back to the 1850s. The company started as a St. Louis tin shop run by a German immigrant named John Ringen. In the 1870s, his business took off and needed extra help. He decided to partner with another German immigrant, George Kahle, to expand his business. Instead of selling tin, they focused on selling early house appliances such as manual washing machines, cast-iron and steel cooking stoves, and other popular housewares at the time.
In the early 1880s, Kahle persuaded Charles and Louis Stockstrom to join in the housewares and appliance business with them. Instead of selling the housewares, the Stockstrom brothers established a factory and put in the task of manufacturing kitchen stoves. Working as a team, they established the Ringen Stove Company and the Quick Meal Stove Company.
These two companies saw incredible growth. By 1901, Charles Stockstrom convinced them to merge their two companies with eight other stove companies across the United States. The new company was called the American Stove Company. In 1914, the American Stove Company invented the first temperature control oven. The Magic Chef brand name was first introduced in 1929 and became a prominent name in the oven and stove industry and a common sight in American households. In 1951, the American Stove Company officially became Magic Chef.
During the Great Depression, the company was one of the few companies that continued to thrive, thanks to its affordable and reliable products. In the 1950s, the company introduced a new line of compact appliances designed for small kitchens, helping to make it one of the most popular appliance brands in the country.
In 1957, Magic Chef, Inc. formed a partnership with a Californian company called Food Giant Markets. After a year of market research, Food Giant Markets introduced their new appliances only at Dixie stores across the United States. In the 1960s, MC appliances could be found in every major appliance retailer in America.
Thanks to a series of successful marketing campaigns, the brand grew in popularity throughout the 1980s. In 1986, the business was the 249th largest industrial company in the nation and was sold to Maytag, which Whirlpool Corporation eventually acquired in 2006.
In 1996, MCA Corporation started brand licensing on smaller kitchen appliances such as microwaves, compact refrigerators, toasters, blenders, and slow cookers. In 2010, MCA Corporation saw the great potential in the brand and its deep connection with American consumers. This led to the purchase and relaunch of the company as a stand-alone brand.

Magic Chef refrigerators are covered by a five-year limited warranty on the sealed refrigeration system. This policy includes the compressor, evaporator, and condenser. If any of these parts are determined to be defective within the five-year period, MCA Corporation will repair or replace (at its discretion) the defective part free of charge. Products must be purchased from an authorized dealer or distributor in order to be eligible for warranty coverage. Proof of purchase is required for all warranty claims.
