GE Appliance’s announces Refrigerator Recall after various injuries.
GE Appliances has recalled six models of free-standing French door refrigerators nationwide for handles that can detach, posing a fall risk to anyone who attempts to pull open the freezer doors.
In a notice posted Thursday by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, GE Appliances, a division of Chinese multinational Haier Group, said the company had received 71 reports of detaching freezer drawer handles. These faulty handles caused 37 injuries, including three serious falls.
From February 2020 through January 2022, about 155,000 of these recalled GE refrigerators were sold. Priced between $1,900 and $2,500, consumers were able to purchase said refrigerator at U.S. home improvement and appliance stores including Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s. From February 2020 through August 2021, these GE refrigerators were manufactured in Mexico. The brand name, model and serial number can be found inside on the top left of each refrigerator.
All models are 36 inches wide. The affected models numbers are as follows:

SEPARATE NOTICE: Consumers can continue to use the recalled refrigerators if they please. However, be sure to grip the edge of the freezer door to open the drawer, instead of pulling on a loose handle.
